Submission & Seabound shows what No Love Lost is all about

By No Love Lost Bassist Adam Richardson

During autumn / winter 2007 after the departure of my two former bandmates I was now the sole member of No Love Lost. I began to piece together songs that would later become the new No Love Lost mini-CD Submission & Seabound.

Shortly after, I came into contact with Lena who penned the lyrics to the song which would later be known as “Submission”. I later wrote the lyrics to “Seabound” and with the addition of an instrumental track, "Silence" began to start what would turn out to be a much delayed recording process!

Drums were played by my ex-bandmate Carl Stokes from UK Death Metal legends Cancer (who I played bass for on two releases also). Recorded at his studio in Telford, England in April 2008, each song was completed in the first couple of takes; no click tracks, old school style!

Shortly after Lena decided she could not continue with the band but we parted on good terms. As we were in need of a singer to record the new songs I got in touch with No Love Lost's original singer Sally Holliday (now a member of Hanging Doll) who helped us out and has done a great job!

We entered Priory Studios in Sutton Coldfield, England in October to record the guitars, bass and vocals. The session was engineered by Greg Chandler of UK technical Doom legends Esoteric, who also handled the mix.

I'm really happy with how Submission & Seabound has turned out. Musically it's a bit darker than In the Darkest Hour, which was recorded barely five months after the band formed! We were still searching for our sound then, but I think this latest recording shows what No Love Lost is all about.
